Setting the industry bar high
In 2019 the vape hardware market was overcrowded and largely undifferentiated. Enter, Vessel – bringing a high touch, silicon valley perspective to the industry and taking a wildly different approach than their competition. Instead of focusing on flashy flavors, vibrant colors, or low prices, Vessel played to the luxury consumer and bet on aligning with a more refined customer palette.
To help Vessel stand out and spread awareness of their sleek, new hardware, I created a series of web and print advertisements for display in local dispensaries and the online marketplace. In the print format, I created a stylish, informative lookbook to showcase the product. For the online advertisements, I explored creative, innovative visual juxtapositions of the devices and hand selected lifestyle imagery meant to evoke a sense of luxury and unmatched quality.
Specialized, target web advertisements
Just as the Vessel brand had achieved with their hardware, the Vessel web advertisements needed to visually set themselves apart from the clutter and noise of the modern web ad space. Fresh visuals, natural landscape visuals, and intentional color usage were all part of the playbook for these retargeting ad designs.
Beyond the simple visual appeal, these designs were hand crafted to resonate with a distinct target audience. Each of the vape devices had a distinct look, feel, and personality. We wanted to create designs that amplified these design characteristics and strongly resonated with an aligned user persona.
Continuing the disruption pattern
The industry disruption didn’t stop with Vessel. We were always looking for new ways to level up the way we approached our work. In one specific web ad campaign, we ran a 20% off promotion where we wanted to highlight the promotional price. At the same time, we didn’t want to lose any of the luster and visual elegance the brand had become synonymous with.
In this series of web ads, we used creative interplay of the Vessel devices and large, bold text to highlight the specific promotional discount. Intentional usage of thick-to-thin text kept the brand’s elegance in-tact while letting the discounted rate shine. These designs were not only eye catching, but were extremely aligned with the brand philosophy of boundary breaking ingenuity.
